Gates products and how H&H sources them
Gates products cover two quite different procurement problems. Belt drives are identified by a designation that encodes profile, pitch, and length, and a belt that is close but not correct will either not fit or will fail early. Hose assemblies are identified by construction, bore, pressure rating, and end connections, and those cannot be inferred from a length of hose lying on a bench.
Maintenance buyers frequently send a measured length and a rough width. That is a starting point for a question, not a specification — H&H does not recommend a replacement on approximate dimensions alone, because belt profile and hose construction are not visible in a measurement.
Where the marking is legible, quoting is straightforward. Where it is not, H&H asks for the drive or circuit detail needed to identify the item properly, then quotes what can be sourced for export against your destination.

Sourcing against your exact Gates part number

Where information is missing, we will come back with a specific question rather than quote an assumption. Photographs, nameplate images, and datasheets all help.
- Send the complete belt designation exactly as printed on the belt, including profile and length code.
- Where the belt is unmarked, give the profile, top width, thickness, and the measured outside or pitch length, and state how the measurement was taken.
- For hose, give the hose designation, bore size, construction or reinforcement type, and pressure rating.
- State the end connections required, including thread standard, fitting type, and orientation, and the assembly length where a made-up assembly is needed.
- State the media conveyed and the operating temperature range — both change which hose is suitable.
- H&H does not recommend a replacement based only on approximate dimensions; final selection remains the buyer's engineering decision.
What most often delays Gates quotations
Most quoting delays are information problems rather than sourcing problems. The points below are the ones H&H most often has to go back to buyers about on Gates requirements — addressing them in your first message usually removes a full round trip.
- A measured belt length supplied without profile, so the designation cannot be reconstructed.
- Outside length and pitch length confused, which produces a belt that does not fit the drive.
- Hose requested by bore alone, without pressure rating, reinforcement, or media.
- Assembly requirements sent without end-fitting thread standards or orientation.
- Requests to confirm a replacement is equivalent to an installed belt or hose — that remains an engineering decision for the buyer.
