McMaster-Carr Catalog-Referenced Requirements — U.S. Industrial Catalog Sourcing

International buyers regularly build requirement lists directly from a U.S. industrial catalog. Send the catalog numbers, descriptions, and quantities you have identified, along with your destination country, and H&H may investigate the requested item or an appropriate sourcing channel. Availability and sourcing method are confirmed per requirement.

Overview

McMaster-Carr products and how H&H sources them

McMaster-Carr is a broadline U.S. industrial distributor and catalog source rather than a manufacturer. Its catalog numbering is so widely used by engineers and maintenance teams that overseas buyers often send H&H a requirement list written entirely in catalog numbers, with no manufacturer name attached to any line.

That creates a specific procurement problem: a catalog number identifies an item description, not a manufacturer, a country of origin, or an export classification. Two catalog numbers that look almost identical can describe different materials, grades, thread standards, or finishes, and the underlying manufacturer for a catalog line is not something H&H will state unless it can actually be confirmed for the goods supplied.

H&H treats a catalog number as a precise description of what you want, then reviews each line individually to determine whether the item, or an item matching the stated specification, can be sourced and exported for your destination. Nothing on this page should be read as a claim that every catalogued item can be purchased, exported, or supplied.

Independent sourcing, not authorized distribution
H&H Exports is an independent U.S. export sourcing and procurement company. McMaster-Carr is a U.S. industrial distributor and catalog source, not a manufacturer, and H&H is not an authorized McMaster-Carr distributor, reseller, representative, or affiliate. Catalog numbers are used only to identify the item you are describing; the sourcing method for each line is confirmed per requirement.
Product types

McMaster-Carr product types H&H may be able to source

The groups below describe the kinds of McMaster-Carr items international buyers most often ask H&H to review. They are not an inventory listing — availability, lead time, country of origin, export eligibility, documentation, commercial terms, and specifications are confirmed against your exact part number, quantity, and destination.

Fasteners and hardware

  • Bolts, screws, nuts, and washers in inch and metric threads
  • Anchors, pins, retaining rings, and clips
  • Threaded rod, inserts, and standoffs
  • Grade-, finish-, and material-specific fastener requirements

Raw materials and stock shapes

  • Metal bar, sheet, plate, and tube stock
  • Plastic sheet, rod, and machinable stock
  • Gasket, rubber, and sealing material by sheet
  • Cut-length and dimensional stock requirements

Tools and workshop equipment

  • Hand tools and precision measuring tools
  • Cutting tools, drills, taps, and abrasives
  • Lifting, rigging, and workholding items

Safety and facility products

  • Personal protective equipment
  • Signage, labelling, and lockout products
  • Storage, shelving, and workplace facility items

Adhesives, sealants, tubing, hose, and fittings

  • Thread lockers, epoxies, and industrial adhesives
  • Sealants, tapes, and gasketing compounds
  • Tubing, hose, clamps, and quick-disconnect fittings
  • Pipe fittings in inch and metric configurations

Electrical, mechanical, and general MRO

Sourcing against your exact McMaster-Carr catalog number

Every quotation is built from the catalog number you supply. H&H does not select, substitute, or approve components on the buyer's behalf — submit your exact catalog number for review and we will confirm what can be sourced.

Where information is missing, we will come back with a specific question rather than quote an assumption. Photographs, nameplate images, and datasheets all help.

  • Send the exact catalog number as it appears in your source, together with a complete written description — the description is what allows a line to be reviewed if the number cannot be matched.
  • Give the quantity per line and state whether partial quantities are acceptable.
  • State the required material, grade, thread standard, finish, and any coating or plating requirement. Inch and metric threads are not interchangeable and must be stated explicitly.
  • Provide dimensions, including length, diameter, wall thickness, or sheet size, and note whether cut-to-length is acceptable.
  • Include the destination country on the enquiry so export eligibility and documentation can be assessed alongside sourcing.
  • Attach a datasheet, catalog screenshot, or your own specification sheet where you have one; images resolve ambiguous descriptions faster than correspondence.
Common complications

What most often delays McMaster-Carr quotations

Most quoting delays are information problems rather than sourcing problems. The points below are the ones H&H most often has to go back to buyers about on McMaster-Carr requirements — addressing them in your first message usually removes a full round trip.

  • A catalog number sent without a description cannot be reviewed if the number does not resolve; always include both.
  • Material and grade are frequently omitted — a stainless fastener line without the alloy stated cannot be quoted accurately.
  • Inch versus metric thread is assumed rather than stated, which is the most common source of wrong-item risk on catalog lists.
  • Long lists with mixed hazardous and non-hazardous items require splitting for transport, which changes packing and freight.
  • Very small quantities of many different lines can carry disproportionate handling cost; grouping the requirement helps.

International procurement

Exporting McMaster-Carr requirements from the United States

H&H works with buyers outside the United States who need U.S.-sourced parts delivered to their own facility, customer, or project site. Read more about the broader process on international procurement, our capabilities, and global shipping and export destinations.

  • Catalog numbers, availability, export eligibility, sourcing method, manufacturer identity, and documentation are reviewed individually per line — nothing is assumed from the catalog reference.
  • Some catalogued items are restricted, hazardous, or otherwise impractical to export; those lines are identified in the response rather than quoted.
  • Chemicals, adhesives, aerosols, and batteries carry transport classification requirements that affect packing, routing, and mode of shipment.
  • Country of origin is confirmed for the goods actually supplied and is never inferred from where the catalog is published.
Consolidation

Combining McMaster-Carr lines with other manufacturers

Most requirements H&H receives are not single-brand. Combining lines into one enquiry means one quotation, one purchase order, and — where eligible — one consolidated shipment. See multi-vendor consolidation and export documentation coordination.

  • Catalog-referenced lines can be combined on one RFQ with branded manufacturer requirements such as bearings, seals, or drive components.
  • Small general-MRO items consolidate well with larger equipment spares into a single consignment where eligible.
  • One quotation, one purchase order, and one export document set replace a scattered list of small U.S. purchases.
FAQs

McMaster-Carr sourcing questions

Is H&H an authorized McMaster-Carr distributor or reseller?
No. H&H Exports is an independent U.S. sourcing, procurement, and export-support company with no distributor, reseller, representative, or affiliate status. Catalog numbers are used only to identify the item you are describing.
Can H&H supply anything listed in the catalog?
No. Each line is reviewed individually. Some items can be sourced, some can be sourced against the stated specification through a different channel, and some cannot be exported at all. The response identifies which is which.
Do I need to know the manufacturer behind a catalog number?
Not necessarily. If you do know it, include it, because it narrows the review. If you do not, a full description with material, dimensions, and specification is usually enough to work from.
Can catalog items be added to an RFQ that already has branded parts on it?
Yes, and that is the most common way these requirements arrive. Mixed lists are quoted as one requirement and consolidated where eligible.
